Methamphetamine is a stimulant. Nicknames include: meth, ice, crank, speed, crystal, and others. Methamphetamine is usually ingested, snorted, smoked or injected.
The following are signs that may signal a Methamphetamine Lab:
Strong ammonia smell (like a cat’s litter box)
Strong solvent smell (like paint thinner)
Chemical drums or other chemical containers with labels painted over
Glass flasks, beakers and rubber tubing like the type found in high school chemistry classes
Milk bottles or jugs, refilled with mysterious liquids
Garbage containing broken flasks, bottles and dirty looking glass and other chemical paraphernalia
Maroon colored residue on aluminum materials in the house
Methamphetamine labs have a potential health hazard far greater than any other type of drug activity. Many toxic and highly explosive chemicals are used to manufacture methamphetamine. This could be a bomb ready to go off in your own rental property or neighborhood.
Hard core addicts get very little sleep and they look like it! Chronic users may have open sores on their skin, bad teeth, and generally appear unclean. Habitual users may develop nervous twitching, lip biting, picking or tapping behaviors. Paranoid and erratic behavior is potential indicators of abuse of this drug.
NOTE: We will be seeing more and more of this drug and the labs that manufacture it. Landlords and involved neighborhoods need to be educated and ready to fight this problem. Please pass this information on….
