Flags or Ads ?

A solicitation permit was not requested nor granted. Additional review of the solicitation ordnance will be needed before a comment on ordnance violation can be provided. It is my understanding that the relevant ordnance was generated to prohibit ice cream trucks in the city and solicitors from knocking on the doors. If this personal delivery is a violation, then future deliveries of this advertisement will be prohibited. Personally, I liked the flag and displayed it proudly, but understand the need for discussion and review.

On another note, if anyone is still receiving newspaper advertisements in an orange plastic bag, please call Courier Journal to complain. We have been working on this issue, but I have still seen some tossed in driveways. Thanks.

I think these are very good questions. Council Members and Committee Chairs need to be especially mindful of even the PERCEPTION of impropriety.

It does appear to be blatant advertising under the guise of a ''patriotic gift.''

And it is that very ''gift'' that could be the issue.

I would strongly urge the Ritz' to refrain from further abuse of position.

The question arises, if I or my husband or my next door neighbor would do the exact same thing, and attach our business card for our flower business or our candy business, would that have been allowed? I firmly believe the answer to that would be a resounding ''No.''
