city yard sale

Posted in: Graymoor-Devondale

Why are we so cheap with the road signs advertising the yard sale? And why didn't someone put them out earlier?

I'm beginning to think no one is really paying attention to the cities business. Theres hardly been any advertising or promotion of this event, just one brief announcement in the newsletter, which people may or may not have seen.

There used to be one road sign at every major intersection. Now, along Herr, it's only 2 or 3. And why not mention Graymoor-Devondale on the sign? Those signs could be for any old city. No wonder other people would be tempted to steal them for their cities use.

I do like the idea of having a chairity come along in the afternoon to pick up the remaining items. Thats a great idea, and thanks for doing it this year.
City Wide Yardsale post mortem

Traffic was down from last year; we didn't do as well.

Called and scheduled a pickup in advance as the newsletter stated, but they never arrived.

Hoping next year will be different, but it still forced us to clear out stuff we just didn't need.

I would agree that the advertising and signage could be better.
Yard Sale

Dear Anonymous
I regret that you elected not to provide your name so that I could respond in a more professional and personal manner.

First, the signs were put out the night following the classified ad in the newspaper which ran for three days in the CJ. Since the signs do not have our city's name on them, they are targets for other areas wanting to promote their city wide yard sales. I believe, thanks to residents, all signs were recovered this year. In the future, when new signs are purchases, I will recommend the city add the city's name.

Secondly regarding the newsletter announcement, I believe the TWO references on the front page, half page coverage on page three and reference on page four exceeds brief. Plus, information about the Yard Sale has been posted on the city's Web site for quite a few weeks.

Signs were posted at all of the city's entrances as well as along Herr, Westport and Ormsby.

I'm glad you liked the idea of the Chartiy pick-up.

Perhaps next year you would be interested in serving as the Yard Sale Coordinator.

Sincerely,

Yvette Winnette
