Is a City Council really needed?

Posted in: Strathmoor Village
I just want to ask the question that has been on my mind for quite awhile - What makes being a sixth class city so great? Why can't we simply merge back into the City of Louisville and establish a neighborhood association with some CCR's in order to keep the cohesiveness of the neighborhood?

It bothers me that there are such strong divisions over how the city should or should not be run in such a small community. Wouldn't it be better for all of us to get rid of our 6th class city government and just go back to being neighbors?

Worth discussing

You bring up a good point. Would we be better off if we were part of Louisville?

After reading the easement we should consider that if they do not repeal the ordinance. The easement ordinance is anti-environmental (grass uses more water, pesticides, herbicides, & insectides), unhealthy (encourages mower pollution and contributes to asthma), lowers property values, reduces beauty (attractive landscaping verses browned out weed infected turf grass), etc.

Would save tax money

If we go back to Louisville, we will all save in tax money. My Strathmoor taxes are something like $800 a year and I think I could better spend that money than our commissioners are spending it.
I disagree

Please stop trying to pass of your opinions as fact. I happen to think that a grass lawn looks very good, and much prefer it to heavy landscaping. Your comparison of a brown, weed-infested lawn doesn't wash when you are comparing to well-manicured landscaping. You are assuming that all people with lawns don't take care of them and all people with landscaping do. The fact is, I'd much rather see a brown lawn than a bunch of bushes and ornamental grasses that are out of control. So let's assume everyone takes care of their space. I still like the lawn better. Show me some proof that grass lawns lower property values. I don't believe that for an instant. And we are talking about easements that are only a few feet wide. You can't tell me that that small of a space has any impact on pollution one way or another. This ordinance is aimed at people who put tomato plants, skulls, and any other number of unsightly things in their easement. Are you going to tell me those things raise property values? You knew about Strathmoor Village's taxes when you moved here. If you want to be a part of the City of Louisville, move out of Strathmoor Village. You complain about the commissioners not listening to you. Do you honestly think you will be heard by the Metro Council? We love our small city and all the things that it offers. No one forced you to move here and no one is forcing you to stay. Stop trying to destroy our neighborhood and leave us alone!
