We've had a petition going around snice the first week of February with several neighbors collecting signatures, including Terry & I in favor of the installation to slow the 'cut thru" traffic on the two streets. Also placing one on Fairmont in front of 5021, and 2 on Kenwood Place to discourage the "cut-thru" there, which would allow motorists to miss 3 of 5 speed humps on Kenwood Road.
Cobb County DOT did their study and found 1237 cars pass thru Kenwood to Crowe daily. We should only have 600. Also, speed was an issue, in excess of 35 in a posted 25 mph zone.
We had only 2 residents so far that have refused to sign in support of the project. one said " I don't have time for those things, I have to go fast" and the other, in front of 5021, "Don't want it in front of my house". The first of the 2 is part of the problem we are trying to slow down and the second would stand to benefit due to the fact it may make the rental houses more attractive to perspective residents with children. Besides, the next time this resident wants to sell off his properties to a commercial project, he may see no support from the community.
In addition, our streets will be paved prior to the installation of the speed humps. These are not "Speed Breakers". Orchard Road has these. Go EAST From the intersection at the East - West Connector and Atlanta Road, Orchard Road is a left turn before Publix and ends at Paces Ferry Road just outside 285.
As of today, we have 80 signatures of the 135 required out of the 207 properties. We are still taking signatures, so tell a neighbor, too! If you haven't signed yet and wish to do so, please email me or call me, 770-365-9805, I will be glad to stop by!!!
Thanks, Pam Vershure
