Keystone Millersville Neighborhood Association (KMNA) – President



What first brought you to community work/volunteering?

One of the police officers within my neighborhood asked me if I attended the KMNA meetings. After attending a meeting I began to ask myself, “How do I want to be remembered?” That is when I decided that I wanted to have a lasting impression in my community.

Describe a moment when you saw your actions have an impact on your community?

Our July 3rd Neighborhood Association Meeting - I walked door to door and talked with residents and business owner/ managers to invite them to the meeting. I feel that it is important to make sure that you are seen in the neighborhood so that people feel that connection. Over twenty-five residents showed up; most were new to the Association!

What accomplishments are you most proud of?

Seeing the neighborhood meetings turn around from a complaint session to an action session. Now when we have an issue or concern we get the right representatives to assist us with addressing it.

Since the time you started your work/volunteering, what changes have you seen?

The streets are cleaner. We don’t have as many young people congregating on corners within the neighborhood. Residents are more vigilant and are not afraid to complain if they see something going on. Seniors are beginning to walk outside again.

What do you see as the greatest asset in your community?

Our greatest assets are the residents. They bring a lot of knowledge, skills, and talent to the neighborhood. It is all about engaging them through the Association to show them how valuable they are.
