Jeffco Schools increased the walking distance to local schools by 1/2 mile in order to ballance the budget for this year. They claim to save $650,000.00 on the backs of the students.
The distance for non-bussed students is:
1.5 miles - grade school
2.5 miles - middle school
3.0 miles - high school
This is supposed to be walking distance (not as the crow fly's)
I did an odometer check and the distance from Parkhill and Cody to Summit ridge parking lot is 2.6 miles.
The distance to Dakota Ridge is 3.8 miles.
It seems that the School district, by not bussing Kippling Villas students, is in violation of their own pollicy for bussing.
I will address this at the School board meeting on Aug. 19th at 7:00pm.
If enough people make the school board aware of the situation - perhaps a change will be made to buss Kipling Vilas students.
