Key Club is Launched at Waddell High School
Kiwanis Club of Pineville-South Meck announces the formation of its first sponsored Key Club at Waddell High School. The Key Club, which has 22 charter members, will be charged with the challenge of getting Waddell High involved with programs of ?“caring?” within the community. Two projects are already on the drawing board that will assist two groups within the school. Peter Rieke, President of the Kiwanis Club of Pineville-South Meck officially chartered the high school group on February 21st at a ceremony at Waddell. Chris Orr a former Key Clubber and now at the Harris YMCA was the featured speaker. His insights about what the Key Club meant to him and how it gave him the feeling of wanting to serve others was inspirational, funny and very meaningful for all who attended.
Mr. Rieke stated ?“the officers of this brand new Key Club at this brand new high school will be the pioneers in establishing the basis for what the club will stand for, what they will do for others and how Waddell will be looked upon by other Key Clubs within the state and nationally.?”
The first ever officers of the Waddell High Key Club are: President-Yanela Gutierrez, Vice Presidents ?– Nima Nematollahi and Carl Krimminger, Secretary ?– Courtney Richardson and treasurer ?– Jonathan French. Two Faculty advisors Mrs. Cynthia King and Miss Karen Flynn as well as Rose Mary Smith and Harvey Auger from the Kiwanis club, will assist them.
?“We look forward to creating an atmosphere of 'caring' within our club and the entire school," said Yanela as she addressed the group as their first President. ?“I am also very honored to be the first president to start the Key Club here at Waddell and lead it to becoming one of the best in the State?”, she further stated.
The Key Club has their motto ?“Caring ?– Our Way of Life?” as their motto and have five objects including: To develop imitative and leadership, to provide experience in living and working together, to serve the school and community, to cooperate with their teachers and principal and to prepare for useful citizenship.
