Special thanks go out to neighbor/officer Steven Hernandez as first responder to adverting a large field fire in Kriewald Place on Krie Trail.
Officer Hernandez was on his way home this morning and saw a discarded mattress was on fire. His quick thinking and training kept the situation controlled. Officer Hernandez immediately pulled the mattress from the dry field grass onto the street and sidewalk putting himself at risk of being injured.
Using the garden hose at neighbor Peaslees' home Officer Hernandez worked with Mr Peaslee to control the fire until the fire department and Sheriff department responded to the 911 calls.
Quick response from Fire District 2 and Bexar County Sheriff departments quickly controlled and extinguished the fire.
A description of a youth was provided as fleeing the scene of the fire however, no apprehension has been made.
We appreciate our neighbors being vigilant in helping to keep our community safe.
