JEFFERSON COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL CRACKS DOWN ON PET OWNERS TO LICENSE PETS

Starting in June, officers will be knocking on doors in various neighborhoods throughout Louisville and Jefferson County asking pet owners for proof of vaccinations and licenses. If a dog or cat is unlicensed, the owner will be charged the regular license fees plus a $20 violation fee and a $10 late fee.

The county ordinance requires dogs and cats four months and older be licensed. License fees for altered pets are $7.00. Licenses for unaltered pets are $35.00, which include a $25.00 rebate towards the cost of a spay/neuter procedure. Senior citizens may license one pet per household at the reduced rate of $3.50.

Licenses can be purchased at the animal Control shelter at 3705 Manslick road, or at one of 32 veterinarian?’s offices in the county. Check with your pet?’s veterinarian to find out if this service is offered. Mail-in applications are also available at all county veterinarian?’s offices, or can be downloaded from Animal Control?’s web page at www.co.jefferson.ky.us/AC&P/.

Putting a Jefferson County license tag on your pet?’s collar is one of the most important things you can do to protect your pet. When Animal Control officers find a stray animal, license tag numbers are checked in the division?’s computers to reunite lost pets with their owners. Without the identification tag, many animals go unclaimed. The license tag also assures that the pet has been vaccinated for rabies. If you have not already done so, please have your pet licensed! If you have any questions, please call my office at 574-5754.
