Trash on Military Drive
From the Office of Councilwoman Delicia Herrera:
Addressing the trash and overgrown weeds along W. Military Drive.
Since the last months of 2005, code compliance officers have been addressing the issue more aggressively and have issued notices as well as violation citations. Code Compliance did achieve some clean-up from the action, however, both Code Compliance officers and our City Council office also received several complaints from elderly residents along W. Military Drive who felt it was too dangerous and too burdensome and expensive to expect them to maintain the area alone.
As a result, our District 6 office has collaborated with Lackland-Terrace neighbors and City departments to devise a plan that we are working to put into place. Our proposal tentatively involves getting some assistance from SAPD, VIA, Public Works, the business community, and the Lackland AFB in addition to the efforts of the LTNA.
It is crucial that we work alongside residents in the Lackland-Terrace Neighborhood to address the conditions along W. Military in a long-term manner.
Very soon, we look forward to presenting a collaborative plan that will benefit the residents of the area.
Two of our members attended a discussion session and following are some of the proposals that came out of it::
A fund raiser organized by District 6 to help in the clean-up.
A clean-up hosted by District 6.
District 6 will send letters to known organizations to assist in
clean-up.
District 6 will send letters to businesses along Military Dr to ask for assistance in keeping the street and their areas clean.
District 6 will send letters to residences along Military Dr to ask them for any help they can provide.
District 6 will check with Juvenile Detention to see if they can provide any assistance in the form of community service.
Ms Cantu is still attempting to contact John Jay ROTC asking for help.
A letter is being sent to VIA asking them to keep their bus stop areas clean and the grass mowed.
Dist 6 is committed to get Military Dr. trash problem resolved.
