Bosse Idol?, by Debi Walter

 It has been a difficult start to 2010 in our neighborhood.  Tragedy stuck, and our community will never be the same.  In the midst of such hardship any good news is welcomed indeed, and do I have some exciting news to share!
    On Wednesday night the American Idol auditions, which took place in Orlando last July, will air starting at 8p.  What you may not realize is one of our very own took part.  Her name is Janell Wheeler (24), daughter of Dale and Rosanne Wheeler on Lake Bosse Drive.  She was numbered among the thousands who gathered around the Amway Arena hoping for a chance to sing before the infamous panel of judges.  Her chance came, and not only came, but she made it through to Hollywood!  So, we have a chance to possibly vote Janell all the way to the top!  What an exciting time in the Wheeler home and in our neighborhood.  
    Rosanne shared with me, “Janell started singing when she was 6 years old.   She wrote several songs and sang them in church (St Mary Magdeline) throughout elementary and middle school. Janell attended Apopka High and was in the elite "Apopka Singers".  She also had the lead in school musicals.  She graduated from the University of Florida in 2007 with a degree in music theater.  This past summer she won first prize in the "Orlando's Got Talent" contest, and in December she sang the national anthem at the Tampa Bay Bucs game.”
    As you can see, Janell has a very good chance of competing quite well in the American Idol season 9 contest.  Make sure you watch and cheer Janell on - who knows we may just have our very own “Bosse Idol”

President's Corner, by Ethan McCain

Hello proud homeowners! This is the start of another year in the neighborhood that we all love and call home! Some changes have been made and there are some new faces on the Lake Bosse Oaks HOA Board, myself included. As elected by a majority vote of the Board, I am now the President and this is my first article.
First, I’d like to thank the Board for their consideration and I’d like to thank each of you for your trust and support. We can make this a good year in the neighborhood through volunteerism and cooperation. There are a few projects that we will be partaking in this year so we are asking all the help we can get from us and you to complete, in a quick and orderly fashion. We will keep a lot of our past events throughout the year and maybe add one or two more to help bring our community together.
Our very first project of the year is a gift and a reminder of how precious life is. This gift is a memorial down by Lake Bosse to one of our neighbors who was killed in a car accident on the very first day of this year. His name was Brian T. Walker. He was 22 years old. He was one of our residents who fished every chance he could down at Lake Bosse. So we felt it was appropriate to give this gift to his family and to all of us to reflect on our own lives and count our blessings and know how good life truly is.
I want to let everyone know that the Board knows that the plants at the front entranceway have been damaged by the freezing temperatures these past couple of weeks, and we will be replacing the ones that won’t make it. We’ll tackle that project around early spring time when it will be safe to rescue and replant. This year we will try preemptive measures to avoid further loss next Winter. Also the back entranceway will be addressed in the next coming months as well.
Once again, I thank you for your trust, cooperation and support in the New Year.

2010 Census To Begin

WARNING: 2010 Census Cautions from the Better Business Bureau
With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the 2010 U.S.Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.
The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist?  BBB offers the following advice:  
If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice.
Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions.  However, you should never invite anyone you don't know into your home.
Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information.
Do not give your Social Security number, credit card or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need it for the U.S. Census.

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR  ADDRESS..
While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information, such as a salary range, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION.
The Census Bureau will not ask for Social Security, bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees solicit donations.  Any one asking for that information is NOT with the CensusBureau.

AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK WITH ACORN ON GATHERING THIS INFORMATION..
No Acorn worker should approach you saying he/she is with the Census Bureau.
Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in person at home.  However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by Email, so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating the Census.

Never click on a link or open any attachments in an Email that  are supposedly from the U.S. Census Bureau.

New Requirements for Florida Driver License and Identification Cards
Effective January 1, 2010

In accordance with the Federal Real ID Act, Floridians will have new requirements for obtaining a driver's license or identification card starting January 1, 2010. If you need to obtain a new license, legally change your name, or replace a lost/stolen license, you will need to provide additional documentation to prove and subsequently protect your identification.
Florida law requires identification, proof of date of birth, proof of residential address, and proof of Social Security Number in order to issue a driver license or identification card.
Each U.S. citizen that will be applying for a renewal (with information changes) or for the first time in person after January 1, 2010 must submit the following as presented on GatherGetGo.Com.:

1. Primary Identification
Must be ONE of an original or certified copy of the following documents:
Certified United States birth certificate, including territories and District of Columbia
Valid United States Passport or Passport Card
Consular Report of Birth Abroad
Certificate of Naturalization, Form N-550 or Form N-570
Certificate of Citizenship, Form N-560 or Form N-561

2. Proof of Social Security Number
Must be ONE of an original or certified copy of the following documents:
Social Security card
W-2 form
Pay check
SSA-1099
Non-SSA-1099

3. 2 Proofs of Residential Address
Gather TWO of the following documents showing your residential address:

Meet Your Neighbor
John and Judy Workman

John was born in West Virginia, but spent his childhood in Oklahoma and Texas.  His father worked for the United States Treasury Department in the Investigative Division.  His role was to investigate crimes committed at post offices, train robberies - which were still quite common in the 1950’s – and corrupt government officials.  This branch is considered a cousin of the FBI and is part of the Secret Service.  His father was presented with a letter of commendation from President Lyndon B. Johnson.
In addition, John served four years as a United States Marine where three of those years he was commissioned to Vietnam as a Combat Engineer.  His role was to train the Vietnamese Marines in the use of modern day weaponry.
