Help and Hope, by Debi Walter

With the economy pressing on us in various ways, I am constantly looking for ways to save money.  I have a great offer to share with you:
    The City of Orlando is providing Buy Local Orlando cards that can be printed from your own computer.  With it you receive all kinds of discounts from area merchants.  One in particular is half-price movie tickets at the new Cinema Cafe Theater located in downtown Orlando.  Tom and I went to see a movie there on Wednesday night and couldn’t believe how nice the downtown area has become.  We enjoyed half price appetizers at the Wall Street Cantina and then a great movie (Star Trek, if you must know) with the most comfortable leather, rocking chair seats!  If you prefer, there is a complete menu available at the theater, so you can enjoy dinner while watching a movie.  Did I mention how comfortable the seats are?  Check out the savings yourself by going to buylocalorlando.net/index to print off your own free card.  You’ll need one per person to get the movie discount.
    On another note, we are anxiously awaiting the births of grandbabies 3 & 4.  Willow is due Wednesday, July 8th; Bradley is due July 25th.  Life has certainly been unpredictable this summer not knowing when their birth dates will arrive!  Babies have a way of reminding us that life goes on, regardless of the difficulties and problems we face.  A baby represents hope for the future.  I don’t know what challenges my grandchildren will face in their lifetimes, but I’m grateful to know Who it is that holds their future.  
    I read recently that a small stream is easily bothered by the obstacles and little pebbles in the way, but a large river passes over the same obstacles without even a ripple on the surface.  I desire to be like the large stream filled with fresh, clean water from on high that flows continually from above.  This is my true source of hope no matter how big the challenges I face.  God alone can take what was once a small stream and make it a mighty river.  May we all be filled with hope - a hope that remains even in uncertain times.

This month’s column really doesn’t have much to do with the neighborhood, but every-thing to do with the beauty all around us.
    Last month, Joy and I had the opportunity to go on a 16 day vacation with a couple of good friends. Our itinerary included Sedona, Arizona, the Grand Canyon, Durango, Colorado, and Angel Fire, Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. If you’ve never been out that way, you’re really missing something. This was only the second real vacation we have ever taken, (other than visiting family), and the first one for that long.
    To say we were awestruck would be an understatement! Sedona, with its red rock hills and outcroppings is stunning. We were surrounded by beauty. Yet, the Grand Canyon was even more amazing.
    The best day of our vacation began at 5:30 a.m. when we were driven to the Grand Canyon Airport for a one hour air tour over the Canyon. I’m not crazy about twin prop planes, but once we were in the air over the Canyon, I could think of nothing but the unbelievable scenery beneath me. After landing in Page, Arizona, a Native American guide drove us to the Antelope Slot Canyon where we wound our way through a red canyon, carved out over millions of years by wind and water, no wider than 9 or 10 feet. The sun would shine into the canyon, illuminating the sides with a brilliant glow. The day ended with a 4 hour smooth water raft tour down the Colorado River, snaking its way around the base of Glen Canyon. What a day! What a vacation!
    I’m reminded of that beautiful hymn, “when I in awesome wonder, consider all the work thy hand hath made”. Indeed.
    I can write much more about this but I won’t. If any of you are thinking about a vacation out West, and would like to talk to Joy and me about it, we’d be glad to share what we know.

Summer Greetings to all Lake Bosse Oaks Homeowners!
     It appears everyone is still enjoying our new wall, even those that don’t live in our beautiful subdivision. I am still getting “thank you’s” from our residents and compliments from non-residents. I’m sure you have noticed a few of the surrounding subdivisions have stepped up and started their own improvements. Some of them have been soliciting our help and our contacts for signage and other improvements. So I believe we started a trend around here to raise the standards of our community.
    In the last newsletter the Lake Bosse Oaks Homeowners Association Architectural Review Board (ARB) has requested that we all pitch in more diligently to improve the interior of our neighborhood. We are pleased most have been improving and maintaining your properties including the yard and landscaping. We are requesting that you continue this action in order to bring out the beauty of your property.
    In this newsletter the ARB wants you to know that we are observing the maintenance of all properties in order to protect the value of the subdivision. We have observed a few violations of our Covenants and Restrictions by which each property is bound. These include no grass or ground coverage in the front yard of some properties and the wood façade falling off needing repair on other houses. We also want to remind all homeowners that trailers and boats must be stored in the back yard behind a fence or in the garage. Please know that it is prohibited to store a trailer and/or a boat in the front of any property including the driveway.  We appreciate your help in this matter.
    We are pleased to announce that Danny and Melodye Jones at 4145 Tall Tree Drive is our Summer winner of the “Yard of the Season” campaign! (See page 3 for picture). They have won a $20 gift card to Home Depot and a sign to display in their front yard! Out of five finalist properties in our neighborhood they were chosen for overall beauty and curb appeal. Congratulations to the Jones’! Does anyone want to keep up with the Jones’? Who will be our Fall winner? Each home is eligible to win; all you have to do is improve and/or maintain a beautiful yard and you could be next!

Neighborhood Watch

Please take a few minutes out of your schedule to send LBO secretary, Mike McKee your updated e-mail addresses and phone numbers.  These are great to have should we need to reach you with important updates or information.

We seem to have a problem recurring regarding our marquis at the neighborhood entrance; someone is removing and/or rearranging the letters.  Please pay attention and report any suspicious activity taking place.  It’s most likely young people doing this.  We may have to replace the plexiglass cover if this vandalism continues.  Your help is appreciated.  If you have teenagers, you might ask them if they have any idea who might be doing this.  Our own children have been known to be the culprits at times, and they may not realize the inconvenience this puts on our ability to communicate sufficiently to you.

Fourth of July Celebration

Unfortunately, this year’s events have been scaled back, but this shouldn’t deter us from enjoying the day with our annual Bicycle Parade!  Thanks to Bob and Bonnie Anderson for pulling it together - We’ll meet at 11:00a. lakeside to participate in the parade!  Don’t forget to don your red, white and blue!

Also, word has it that Mark Matuszek is planning some fun and celebration down by the lake tomorrow night - July 4th.  If you don’t have plans, you might want to join the fun!
