Lake Brant is a beautiful place for boating.
The sense of freedom & enjoyment we experience on the water can create memories that last a lifetime. Smart boaters are also aware of the dangers !
The Florida Marine Patrol (FMP) concludes that the majority of boating injuries & fatalities occur in boats under 20ft on small inland lakes.
Hey People ! That's us !
Since 1992, we have experienced 7 potentially fatal accidents on Lake Brant. Will the next accident involve you & your family? Will everyone be alright?
What can I do?
Basic boating knowledge, common sense & courtesy can prevent most accidents. Please become a responsible & knowledgeable boater for everyone's sake.
To obtain a free "How to Boat Smart" booklet,
call the FMB at (813) 272 2516.
Here is just a few Brant safety rules:
* Boats must travel in a counterclockwise direction
( personal crafts are boats )
* Boats & skiers etc. must remain on the Lake side of our "safety Buoys" & at least 100ft from all docks, boats & people while underway.
* Do NOT move the "Safety Buoys" or use them as a slalom course.
* A courteous hand wave to fellow boat operators & downed skiers acknowledges each others presence & safety
(this goes along way to boating harmony )
* Do NOT follow closely behind any boat with a skier etc.. (Boats do not have Brakes)
* A boat operator is responsible for the safety of all persons on the boat, skiers & anyone they let operate the boat or personal watercraft.
( Teach your friends our rules before you let them operate on our Lake )
* FL Law: All children under 6 yrs must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while underway
* FL Law: All personal watercraft users & all skiers must wear PFD's
*FL Law: No one under 14 years can operate a personal watercraft.
*FL Law: All persons born after 09/30/80 must pass a boater course to operate any boat of
10HP or more.

Lake Brant Snake Watch,
There have been reports of sightings of poisonous snakes along our shores. The three snakes reported have been the Cotton Mouth Water Moccasin, Eastern Diamond Back Rattlesnake & Pigmy Rattlesnakes. Most of the sightings have been along the shore line next to the grass areas of our back yards or next to the wetlands.

The Cotton Mouth Water Moccasin is a gray black in color with a TRIANGLE HEAD, Inside its mouth
is pure white, like cotton. Do not approach this snake or attempt to chase it off. It is capable of striking out 4
to 6 feet. If you encounter this snake, walk away slowly.
The Eastern Diamond Back Rattlesnake warns by rattling it's tail when you approach. It must be coiled to strike. It has a TRIANGLE HEAD and diamond pattern on its body. Do not approach or attempt to chase this snake off. It will strike when
it senses rapid movement. It can strike out 6 to 8 feet.
If you encounter a rattler move away from it slowly.
The Pigmy rattlesnake looks like a baby rattlesnake & has been sighted in shrubby & landscaping. Before weeding or working around your landscaping, take a rake or shovel & beat the bushes. They do not like noise. ALWAYS WEAR HEAVY CANVAS WORK GLOVES.

These snakes are not known to strike while swimming. Most strikes occur along the shoreline where they hunt & look for frogs, mice & small animals. If you see one of these snakes, call a Lake Brant Trustee to report the sighting and REMAIN CLEAR OF THE SNAKE.
