Help on Hibiscus Ct.

Posted in: Lake Eola Heights Historic

As many of you know, Hibiscus Court has a rather sordid past.  I have lived there for the past five years and have made quite a difference in assuring that codes are enforced, encouraging neighbors to take pride in their homes, restoring my home & garden, etc. (and etc. entails plenty of work and a constant effort on this street).

Our street is in serious disrepair compared to the other streets in the neighborhood.  The City of Orlando will not repair or replace the street surface; the answer is just "No!".  It seems that because easements will be required from each property owner on the street because of the substandard street size, it would "be too much work".  Now, or in five years, it will still require thet same effort.  By the way, I inquired about repair/replacement five years ago and received the same response.

Although it took plenty of push and shove, I was able to get Geneva Place repaved, but it is also very disappointing that slopping down some black asphalt (in a historic district, mind you) is acceptable.  It was a definite improvement, but can I possibly be the only one with an eye for aesthetics or for maintaining standards that a historic neighborhood should demand?

Help!  I am determined to nurse this poor little street back to it's potential.

This sounds like a perfect issue to bring up to Patty Sheehan at the next LEHNA meeting...
