CRIME REPORT; 08-23-10

      Good morning!!!!  Over the weekend, officers of the Abilene Police Department responded to numerous calls for service.   Here are a few examples.   Officer Antilley responded to a vehicle burglary call which occurred in the 3800 block of South Clack.  The victim stated an unknown subject had entered the victim's vehicle through an unlocked door and had taken approximately $100 worth of tree cutting equipment.  A report was worked for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.   Officer Compton responded to a disturbance call in the 2200 block of Ambler.  Officer Compton contacted a 20 year old male who was involved in the disturbance.  The subject had two outstanding warrants for probation violations and was arrested.   Officer Plato responded to a large fight call in the 5200 block of South 1st.  Officer Plato contacted a 23 year old male who was involved in the disturbance.  The subject had several outstanding local warrants and was arrested for the warrants, for Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct.   Congratulations parents:  today is the first day of school.  Remember to slow down, give yourself extra time, and avoid using cell phones in school zones.   For the Abilene Police Department, this is Sgt Keith Shackleford.

CRIME REPORT; 08-24-10

      Good morning!!!!!  Here are some examples of the calls your police department responded to over the last twenty four hours.   Officer Craft responded to a robbery call in the 100 block of Sayles.  According to the victim, an unknown white male attacked her as she opened up the business for the day.  The subject grabbed her purse and attempted to run off with it.  The victim fought off the subject and he ran from the location.  The subject was described as 40-45 years old wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt.  Call Crimestoppers at 676-TIPS (8477) if you have information about this crime.   Officer Perez responded to a commercial burglary call in the 1000 block of Industrial.  The victim stated an unknown suspect had forced open a door and took approximately $1900 worth of tools and equipment.  A report was worked for Burglary of a Building.   Officer Harris responded to a residential burglary call in the 2100 block of River Oaks.  The victim stated an unknown suspect had used a pry bar to force open the back sliding glass door to the residence.  Once inside, the suspect took various items.  A report was worked for Burglary of a Habitation.   We have seen an increase in burglaries where window air conditioner units were either removed to make entry into the location or the units were taken altogether.  Make sure to secure any window units properly and make it more difficult for someone to target your residence.   For the Abilene Police Department, this is Sgt Keith Shackleford.

    Good morning!!!!!  The last twenty four hours have been busy for the police department.  Here are a few examples.   Officer Migliore responded to a suspicious subject call in the 4200 block of Ridgemont.  Officer Migliore contacted a 32 year old male who had been inhaling computer cleaner.  The subject was still in possession of the chemicals and was arrested for Possession of Volatile Inhalant Chemicals.   Agents of the Special Operations Division contacted a known 18 year old male who was wanted on several outstanding warrants, including Aggravated Assault and Burglary, in the 3300 block of Catclaw.  As the agents approached the subject's vehicle, he fled the scene in the vehicle.  The subject was later contacted and arrested for the outstanding warrants and for third degree felony Evading Arrest.   Finally, Officer Joeris stopped a vehicle at South 1st and Sayles.  The driver, a 19 year old male, was intoxicated and was arrested for third degree felony Driving While Intoxicated.  He had two prior convictions for DWI.  The subject was also in possession of powder cocaine and was charged with that offense as well.  This incident is the 443rd DWI in Abilene since January 1st.   For the Abilene Police Department, this is Sgt Keith Shackleford.

    Good morning!!!!  Over the last ten days, the police department has responded to numerous burglary calls.  Here are a couple of examples from the last twenty four hours.   Officer Brown responded to a residential burglary call in the 2400 block of North 3rd.  The victim stated an unknown suspect entered the residence through an unlocked front door and took various electronic items.  A report was worked for Burglary of a Habitation.   Officer Richardson responded to a commercial burglary call in the 200 block of South Willis.  The victim stated an unknown suspect broke a drive thru window with a rock and entered the building.  Once inside, the suspect took cash.  A report was worked for Burglary of a Building.   The most effective deterrents to crime are securing your property and citizen involvement.  Lock your doors and windows.  When you see suspicious activity, call the police department.  Describe the activity you are seeing and the people who are involved.    For the Abilene Police Department, this is Sgt Keith Shackleford.
