Megan

A Phase 1 seal contract let and will go before City Council for resurfacing Amarillo, Meander, Vine, and Idlewild Streets from South 7th to South 11th.   My hope is that this work will begin in August.

We are currently working on a Phase 2 contract for South 8th, South 10th, Jeanette, Peach, Palm, and Polpar.   Those 6 streets are in worse condition than the Phase 1 streets and many of the intersections need extra attention to re-establish proper drainage.   The Phase 2 project will include some curb and gutter replacement, pavement surface removal, an under-seal, and new hotmix surface.    I hope to have the Phase 2 plans let to contract this summer, but construction will likely not begin until this fall.

The work was split into 2 phases because the seal coat has to be done in the summer months.

Dr. Long,

Sorry for the delay but yesterday ended up quite hectic.  We are fairly confident, of course in our line of work we always preface schedules with words like weather permitting and avoiding unforeseen circumstances, that the project on South 8th will be completed by the end of the summer.  This allows us some room for foreseen conditions, like material delays or weather issues, or  unforeseen conditions, like utilities or bid submittals, that might occur during the design, program or construct phases of this project.  We are working on the design now.  Then we will bid the contract and get Council approval.  Then the work can begin.  So, we would like to be conservative and estimate 6-9 months.   Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,

Thank you for the call today.  I forgot to ask the timeframe for repairing South 8th, so I can tell others.

Happy New Year!

Lydia,

We had the pre-construction meeting this week and everything is moving forward smoothly.  Letters notifying residents of the road work should go out in the next two weeks.

Thanks,
