Hello,
I have some info for you just in case you are interested in my latest crusade. The Lake Worth High School band is in serious need of new uniforms to the tune of 39,932.62. After hearing one of the former band member get up to the podium at a City Commission meeting asking for help with a nervously shaking voice I just knew I had to do something. As of today I have gotten confirmed dates for fundraisers from three local business:
1. Benny's on the Beach - April 9th - Breakfast fundraiser - proceeds from that days sales will go to the LWHS Band.
2. Hall of Fame World Famous Barber Shop - Downtown Lake Worth - April 16th - ALL DAY - Hot dogs and burgers will be sold outside for the fundraiser and a portion of the proceeds from all haircuts that day will go to LWHS Band.
3. The Cottage - April 23 - starting at 11:30am on - Proceeds from the sales of that day will go to the LWHS Band.
I sincerely hope that you can once again save the day and highlight attention to this very worthy cause. These teens are rehearsing and doing something constructive after school hours. I have been to a couple of rehearsals and they don't let the band director leave at 7pm when he wants to go home to his fiancee. I believe we need to show them some support and encouragement. A little belief, faith and acknowledgement goes a long way with these teens. There are some great stories among these teens I have met with on more than one occasion. Some who stay rehearsing until late because what they have to go home to isn't pleasant.
In closing please allow me to express just how important I believe it is to show strong support to our youth who are staying in school and participating in the arts with pride and discipline. I need all the help I can get announcing these events so that they can be successful and these businesses will be willing to continue to collaborate with community fundraising efforts for worthy causes. I have a call into a Lucy Carr from PNC Community Development Foundation to see if they can help as well. We have a large number to overcome. I have faith in the people of our community to say without a doubt WE WILL DO IT!
To my elected officials I would hope that you would make the sincerest of efforts to patronize at least one of these scheduled events, if not all of them to show our commitment to our teens that are staying in school and participating in constructive extracurricular activities.
I encourage you to forward this email to as many people locally that can attend and make these events spectacular!
Update on Ms. Harris - April 9th Home Depot will begin the fencing work.
Best wishes,
