Improvements completed

If you’ve been to Tietze Park in the last couple of months, you’ve seen the wonderful results! Several years of hard work by neighborhood and city park supporters bore fruit this spring, when construction was completed on Phase 1 improvements !

Funded primarily by the 2003 city-wide Bond Election, new lighting, pavilion and pool building improvements, sidewalks and landscaping are now in place for all of us to enjoy. The Lindsey Brown Toddler Playground, funded jointly by Friends of Tietze Park Foundation donations and bond funds, was dedicated in April. We’re now working on Park Board approval for a shade structure, to be located adjacent to the playground, so families can keep out of the sun while the kids play. This will be 100% funded by donations, including a $10,000 grant we received in November from the RGK Foundation.

The Dallas Park Board approval we seek will also cover the installation of inscribed bricks that we’ve been selling, and the new benches and tables funded by those brick sales. (To those who’ve purchased bricks - thank you! - and please be patient a little longer while this works its way through the bureaucracy.) If you haven’t purchased a brick (or three!), please check our website for information and order yours soon, so they can be included in the first batch, to be installed in the plaza (between the pavilion and the tennis courts).

We’ll soon be hosting public meetings to discuss plans for “Phase 2” park improvements, funded primarily by the successful 2006 bond election, which included $507,000 for Tietze Park. It’s a long haul getting things done at the park, but after seeing what was accomplished in Phase 1, and with the generosity of our supporters, we know that “the future is green” at Tietze Park! Tietze Tots Meet To Play

Tietze Tots is our neighborhood park play group that meets every other Friday at Tietze Park. We meet by the trees next to the new toddler playground. It is a great way for moms, dads, caregivers and tots to get together and have some fun at the park. The group generally has children ranging from 0 to 5 years old, but all children are welcome to come and play. All children must be supervised by their parent or caregiver during all events. This is also a great opportunity for new families with children to meet their neighbors. If you would like to join or have any questions please send an email to ldarlak@earthlink.net and to receive updates, reminders and play group updates.

So, pack up the strollers and load up the kids to join the fun on August 10th 27 at Tietze Park! (Don’t forget the sunscreen! The new shade structure with benches to be generously provided by the Friends of Tietze Park Foundation is scheduled for installation in the fall.)
