I wanted to let my neighbors know about a memorable music event I'm producing this Sat. Mar.27, 7:30 pm at the Art House Gallery & Cultural Center (which is a Le Conte neighborhood venue at 2905 Shattuck Ave. Sukhawat Ali Khan Ensemble performs spellbinding Qawwali Sufi Music. At age 7, Sukhawat began in formal study of raga and Sufi singing from his famous father & music legend,Ustad Salamat Ali Khan. Sukhawat has performed at Montreal, Monterey, & Prospect Park Jazz Festivals & many other UC & European venues. Lisa Sangita Moskow opens by playing a one-of-a-kind 14 stringed electric Sarod, accompanied by original vocals. Her mesmerizing sound is influenced by extensive training in classical No. Indian Sarod with her mentor the late Ali Akbar Khan. // In order to commemorate the first ticketed event which benefits the free Berkeley World Music Festival, I wanted to present these two renowned & popular artists who have performed at past bwm festivals.
