Dear Alumni:
As my term as your president crests the hill of our program year, I?’m reminded of how faithful and talented your leadership team is. One of the perks of our by-laws is that they provide for the possibility of continuity of leadership, not just in the retention of an immediate past president, but also in the opportunity for experienced team members to remain at their posts without annual term limits.
We are glad to report that membership and income have increased and that expenses have decreased. Following a recommendation from our treasurer, Jena Ault, the LBGAA is moving money to certificates of deposit so that we earn interest on your investment in us. Similarly, we engaged in spirited discussion of our first request to the Philanthropy Fund and expect action at the next executive committee meeting. Your leadership team is mindful of your investment in the association and intends to be faithful stewards of that trust.
Perhaps our largest investment is in young people at Bowling Green High School. Libby Dixon has convened an enthusiastic group to serve as our Scholarship Committee. Their work has already begun and they will be ready to award a scholarship by the BGHS Awards Day ceremonies. We look forward to welcoming the LBGAA Scholar at our annual meeting on June 26.
And a word about the annual meeting. On June 26, we?’ll elect a new slate of officers for the 2002-03 program year. They?’ll take the helm for an organization that is growing and changing to meet new challenges and embrace new opportunities. If you have an interest in serving in a leadership role, specifically as an officer for next year, please don?’t be shy about contacting Claude Kilpatrick, immediate past president and chair of the nominating committee. Claude is reachable via e-mail to kilpatri@wcnet.org. The other members of his committee will be announced at the March meeting.
