Protecting Your Home From Fire

Create a defensible buffer--removing weeds, brush, vegetation

from around house.

Do not put flamable mulches near or around house: dirt, gravel,

or rocks are best.  Rubber mulches, wood chips, shredded

wood are worse (and are like adding fuel to the fire).  Also

note that wood chips and shredded wood are breeding

ground for termites.

Relocate woodpiles away from the house or garage.

Trim tree canopies regularly to keep their branches a minimum of

10 feet from other trees.

Next roof is a fireproof roof.

Screen vents.

Fireproof balconies or decks. Fire resistant patio covers.

Dual pane windows resist glass breakage from heat.

Fire extinguishers in home and garage.

Spark arrestor on chimney.

Garden hoses on Property long enough to reach perimeter of

Property.

Consider using ignition resistant or non-combustible fencing.

Have a Family Disaster Plan and assemble an Emergency

Supply Kit. Have an Emergency Family Contact Number

out of area.

Please keep your gas tanks relatively full, since the local gas stations may not have electricity for pumping gas.
