Noise Pollution

Posted in: CB9M - Community Board 9 Manhattan
Summertime is around the corner and I look forward to the warm weather. Unfortunately, I am beginning to get worried. Why? M & S Frontline Co. bar located on 145th street between Broadway and Amsterdam. This bar attracting ill-behaved and EXTREMELY loud people, who show up in cars with the music blasting and who then continue to park their cars with the music at a maximum high volume. The bar owners are leaving their doors wide open, so the entire block is able to hear the music, at all hours. These bar owners make NO attempt to keep the noise down or request that their patrons disperse after exiting the bar.

So what can be done about this? Don't we want our streets to be safe? Does are neighborhood have to be completely gentrified in order for us to see a positive change? I know that I am not the only one to notice how crazy this block gets! If you read this, please respond with your opinion. I need to know that I am not the only one who is being proactive.

If no one has answered you, you must feel like a voice in the wilderness.

I am the new Chair of Community Board 9 and I am still settling in.

I just wanted to let you know that we do care to stand agaisnt the problem that you describe and which serves as a multiplier for other nuisances and diminshment of our quality of life.

I want to invite you to our Uniform Services and Transportation Committee which is the Board's committee that deals with such problems as you describe in your June posting.

I have given my Committee Chairs their marching orders, being active is not enough, they must be pro-active and when needed activists.

You have shown concern for your community, I want to give the chance to be part of the solution.

The Uniform Services Committee meets the first Thursday of every month, except for July and August, at our offices, 565W125St corner ofm Old Broadway, just down from Broadway.

All CB9M meetings start at 6:30 PM.

Please introduce yourself to me, I like to hear more about your section of the neighborhood.

Regards

Vehicle Alarm Noise Complaint

Up date

On Friday March 30, 2007 there was a car alarm going on and off since early evening on West 136th Street parked between 600 and 610. After several calls to 311. at 3:30am Checked the vehicle and identified make, color and license plate and faxed it to the 30th Precinct, apparently was seen by friends of car owner who proceeded to trun off the alarm. The 30th Precinct send an officer to the registered owner down the block and warned him to not allow the alarm to continue to gon on and off or be ticketed or have the Police disable the alarm and ticket him. No more problem from that car.
