watering

Posted in: Loma Linda HOA

HI, I just planted a bunch of flowers and shrubs. How often can I water them? What are the normal dates? and are there different rules for new plant growth?

Polk County currently allows watering two days a week before 8 am and after 4 pm.

Your address house number is the key. For instance my house number ends in 8 so I can water Sunday and Thursday. Check www.polk-county.net/ Wtaering Restrictions

Please note that newly planted items get a special exception.  Visit the Polk County Utilities website for more information. https://www.polk-county.net/boccsite/County-Services/Watering-Schedule-and-Restrictions/

  • New lawns and plants have a 30-30 establishment period, which allows any day watering during the first 30 days.
  • The new plant/lawn users must still abide by the permitted hours except on the day of installation, during which residents may irrigate as needed within the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. prohibited time frame.
  • During the second 30 days, watering is allowed three days per week.
  • Permitted watering is within the midnight to 10 a.m., or  4 p.m. to midnight time frame.
  • Even-numbered addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
  • Odd-numbered addresses may water Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Also, UF/IFAS Extension Polk County (1702 US Highway 17 S · Bartow, Fl 33830 863)519-1041) has a WEALTH of free information.  I've also gone to the one in Kissimmee if you are in that area running errands.  They all get their information from the University of Florida research labs and it is very helpful for all things growing in Florida.
