Neighborhood watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in our communities.
It involves:
Neighbors getting to know each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance;
Citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods; and
Implementation of crime prevention techniques, such as home security, Operation Identification and others.
- A law enforcement officer cannot be on every street corner, so citizen involvement is essential to combat crime.
- We are the ones who really know what is going on in our neighborhood.
- By cooperating with each other and police, we can help fight crime in our neighborhood in the most effective way -- before it begins!
When you witness a crime or suspicious activity, it is sometimes difficult to remember all of the details of the event. Here are some things that you should do when calling the police.
-When a crime is taking place call 911.
-If it is a non-emergency claim call Antioch PD 778-2441
When calling APD for all calls regardless if there is an emergency
1. State the location to the nearest address that an officer is needed.
2. Provide as many details as possible, description of person or vehicles, license plate number, what is happening at the scene..etc.
3. The dispatcher will ask for your name which you do not have to provide. They will also ask you if would like contact from the officer. (He/she will probably contact you via phone)
4. Finally at the end of the phone call ask for an incident number. This will provide you with a tracking number so that you can follow up on the incident.
