Last fall the Long Hollow Neighborhood Association installed a fabulous new butterfly garden adjacent to the children's play area in the Long Hollow Park on Guillemard Street. Funding for the project was provided by a grant from the Governor's Front Porch Revitalization Council. The grant was written by Michelle MacNeil as a neighborhood revitalization project. In addition to Long Hollow, gardens will be installed in Eastside, Aviation Field and the Belmont Devilliers Neighborhood. Carole Simpson, owner of The Garden Gate nursery in Gulf Breeze, designed the gardens and helped select drought tolerant plants that would sustain the butterfly and complement our parks with attractive flowering plants. It is a wonderful addtion to the neighborhood, inviting children of all ages to witness the fascinating life cycle of the butterfly.
