This morning around 10:15, a small fawn colored Chihuahua or mix, an intact male, got into our back yard.  We have 4 dogs - all contained in our back fully fenced yard.  I am not sure how the dog got into our yard.  The dog attacked our male dog who is neutered, and the Chihuahua was fatally injured.  We rushed the dog (the animal had no identification on him and was an older dog) to our vet, but it was too late.  The small dog passed.  We are trying to find out if anyone knows someone who had such a dog. We've requested our vet to hold the dog for a couple of days in the event he is claimed by the owner.

This sad incident is a primary reason all dogs need to be wearing identification and contained at all times, or with the owner on a leash.  Please do not let your dogs run our neighborhood unattended.  It's an accident waiting to happen, and this time it did.

We were able to locate the owner of the Chihuahua dog in our neighborhood - the owner posted an ad on Craig's List under lost dogs the same morning of the above incident, and after checking all sources we could think of,  I am thankful that we could let the owner know about his dog. Being animal owners and lovers, we understand anyone would want to locate a lost animal no matter the outcome and know what happened to their pet.

PLEASE, anyone that reads this post, keep indentification on your animal at all times. Do not let them run loose.  Sometimes, accidents happen and an animal can get out even when owners do all they can to prevent it.  At least with identification, if found, the owner can be contacted.  If you are not a breeder, neuter/spay your animals.

The same day, I chased another dog for 4 blocks to return him to my next door neighbor.  The dog bolted out the door, and thankfully, I was able to get him home unharmed.  This dog was lucky.  I knew him.  If I hadn't, there is no way I would have chased him and brought him back - even if I knew where he lived.
