I sent the following to Rhonda, after Thursday's meeting, which I was unable to attend, due to work. thought I should post it here, too.

Rhonda--
Sorry I couldn't be at the meeting last night, but Barb filled me in.
For those people who complained about garbage cans being set out on the street, could you convey the following:

When we moved in to 539 W. St. Catherine, I dutifully placed the garbage behind our house the night before each pick-up. But the garbage was never picked up. After several calls to Citycall and the proper agencies, I was told that our alley, from our house west to Sixth, is too narrow for a garbage truck to traverse (the Armored Car Co. building butts right up onto the alley behind us). The new garbage cans we must use require special, large trucks. So, I asked, what are we to do? I received the following letter from the City of Louisville Department of Solid Waste Management & Services, dated June 11, 2001.

Dear Resident:
The City of Louisville, Department of Solid Waste Management and Services, has determined that the correct set-out point for all of your garbage, yard waste, recyclables, and quarterly junk pick-up is to be THE CURB IN THE FRONT OF YOUR PROPERTY (emphasis included in the letter). Waste sitting at any other location will not be collected. (underline included in the letter)

This notice is effective starting immediately.
Sincerely,
Charles D. Robinson
Planning Manager

Rhonda, please convey to those upset with these arrangements that we, on this end of the alley north of St. Catherine in the 500 block, don't particularly like the fact that we have to set the garbage out front, but our only alternative is to haul it down to 6th Street.
Anyone who'd like to volunteer to take my trash to 6th Street every Thursday night is welcome to do so.
And, I will be very upset if someone calls the police and complains, forcing me to court with my letter, in order to avoid paying a fine.
Thanks,
Jon Huffman
Garbage

I got the impression from the meeting that the complaint was for those who left the trash cans out front all the time not those like yourself who set them out on thursday and take them back to the rear of your home on Friday. We do have a problem with folks leaving the trash cans out in the front yard making it look rather bad for the rest of the area. I dont forsee the police being called for you placing your can out front for such a short period of time.
