Litter
In response to Michael's comments on the litter problem in our historic residential community, I have to agree that it will take City leaders enforcing the laws and ordinances already on the books before we see an appreciable reduction in the amount of litter on our streets. Perhaps, people would not be as apathetic about tossing out their litter in anyone's community, if it actually translated into a fine for them. And, while we are at it, why not re-institute the ''Keep America Beautiful'' campaign that we all grew up with.
Also, I would like everyone to know that on our weekly clean-ups, members of our ''litterati'' group are stopped and thanked (and sometimes assisted with the task at hand) for the fine job they are doing. Additionally, I want to impress on the whole neighborhood that our little group is not unique when it comes to cleaning up. Almost all of the associations in Old Louisville/Limerick are doing something similar. The problem is that the ''same pathetic few'' has traditionally done the majority of the work. We need to mentor more and more volunteers, so we can continue with our vision for our historic district.
Along those lines, I, and all members of the WSCNA, would like to thank Herb Fink and his Property Improvement Committee. Herb's group works to rid our community of property owners who allow their property to fall into disrepair and violation of City ordinances. His work is helping all Old Louisville/Limerick with its cleanliness problem, as it is usually these absentee landlords neglecting their properties where we are collecting the most litter and debri. Keep up the good work Herb!
