Here we go again with the accidents at our intersections:
Most recently, on Tuesday morning the 4th of June, 2002 @ 1:30 a.m., a semi tractor trailer comes barreling around the corner on Seventh St. onto West Saint Catherine, travelling east, taking out 2 telephone poles, a fire hydrant, totaling 1 vehicle and wrecking another. As for myself, as well as the neighbors I have conversed with, I am appalled at the continuous prospect (even with the change to a 2-way traffic pattern on West Saint Catherine), of this kind of damage still occurring at our intersections as a result of trucks traversing through, as opposed to around, the historic/ residential district we call home. While I am extremely hopeful that the Ninth St. extension will re-direct truck traffic from the neighborhood, I do not feel, however, there is any reason for prohibiting that truck traffic from the historic district now.
