Melissa & Richard, welcome to Louisville. If you are active in the performing arts, then I would suggest volunteering at Actors Theatre of Louisville with the Actors Associates. Please contact Allison Hammons, director of volunteers, at ahammons@actorstheatre.org and/or (502) 584-1265 x3072.

Hello MelissaB, I've only now come across your neighborhoodlink inquiry. What caught my eye was your background in non-profit business and your interest in networking in Louisville. I and some other neighbors of Old Louisville have a 501(c)(3) preservation corporation called Victorian Louisville, Inc. Why don't you go to our website www.victorianlouisville.com and see if you are interested in knowing more about what we're doing or corresponding a bit more. You can contact me directly by phone 502-637-2476 or e-mail at ctwhit04@louisville.edu.

Hi, Melissa & Richard - hope by now you are settling in to your new home.
There are several things going on in this part of town. If you live in Metro District 5, Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton's weekly e-newsletter has many events listed and a calendar of events. There are a couple of CSAs here you can support, community gardens, there's Tai Chi, walking groups, a Christian medical clinic in Shawnee, libraries, parks (LOTS of parks), and non-profits all over the place. What we don't have a lot of is restaurants in this part of town, but hopefully that will change.
Portland NOW is a very active neighborhood association and you can get involved with some folks there to help point you to some more specific activities.
Try contacting the councilwoman at cheri.hamilton@louisvilleky.gov.
Regards -

Hello,
I have not been on this site for a very long time. I am sorry that I have not responded to your post. I started this site when I was a board member of Portland Now. I resigned and thought someone else was managing the site. I did notice some new pages, but am not sure who takes care of it.
I hope you are still interested in participating in activites and groups.
I am currently a volunteer at the Portland Museum. We are always in need of volunteers. As it stands now we are two volunteers and an Executive Director. This may interest you, if so please call the museum at 776-7678. We are working on a plan for our historic district and our first meeting is April 11, at 6 pm at the Portland Branch Library on the corner of 33rd and Northwestern Parkway.
The Library needs volunteers for their Friends group. The Library's phone number is: 574-1744.
Portland Now, the neighborhood association meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Neighborhood House located on the corner of 25th and Rowan. I recently rejoined the board, we are always in need of people.
The First Division Police Auxiliary meets the last Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm except when they have a Covered Dish meal and that is announced at their meetings. The loction for that is 416 N 29th. First Division Police sub-station.
Our neighborhood newspaper The Portland Anchor has a lot of information in it too. It can be picked up at Kroger's, CVS and the Portland Museum just to name a few sites.
Hope this helps. Mary Turner |
