Visions of Heaven, IV

Oct 13, 2005

Author and physicist David Bohm explained it this way. "Everything material is also mental and everything mental is also material. But, there may be more infinitely subtle levels of matter than we are aware of."

Considering both Biblical tradition and modern science, many people see our physical universe as an outer shell with inner worlds; mental and spiritual. Every physical being is animated by inner-energy or souls. The physical body dies when the connection to its mental and spiritual bodies is broken. After that, it decays in the physical plane while the mental and spiritual bodies seperate and return to inner worlds we cannot see from here. Actor Martin Sheen likes to say that "we do not go to Heaven so much as we become it." That sums it up nicely for many of us.

No one sees life as a soulless, mechanical existence, governed by nothing more than chance occurrences. The idea that there is a universal consciousness; that every human being contains a spark of divinity; and that life is eternal; is a as much scientific as it is religious.
