The proposed route for the trail continues to be as planned. Starting on the south at the old railroad trestle just north of Prospect Park, it will continue north under the Euclid Ave. river bridge, to the west along the former Target building to the MLK levy. Then it will turn north on the levy and along the abandoned railroad right-of-way turning west and going past Bob Lenc?’s nursery. The trail then crosses Beaver Ave. and goes under I-80 to the trestle just north of the interstate.
Polk County is working diligently to pull the Trestle to Trestle trail together. Funding is planned to come from Polk County, Des Moines, Johnston, and State and Federal governments. Current projected cost is estimated at $1.5 million.
