Bear Police Department

Posted in: Pinewoods Maintenance Corp
The News Journal reported on the front page of the paper dated Tuesday July 3, 2007
That Middletown leaders decided Monday to form a town police department.

Does anyone know why or how this issue can be addressed for the residents of Bear, Delaware?
With the population growth and increase in crime perhaps this is something we should discuss with our local leaders!

Bear is a local post office, not a town. All of Bear is in the unicorporated area of New Castle County.

YellWhat drugs were you on when you made that statement up!

Bear is a town in New Castle County Delaware.

Our Police are mainly New Castle County Police and the State of Delaware Police. I do agree that we could use some extra security in this area even though I live next to a police officer.

They weren't on drugs - they were being technical.  Technically, Bear is not a town, or a city, or anything like that - it is a "census-designated place." (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census-designated_place)

I agree, though, Bear is getting bigger, and crime seems to be on the rise.  In order for Bear to get a police department, though, I think we would have to meet some legal guidelines (like filing the appropriate paperwork with the state to become a town, or municipality, or something) in order to do so.  I wouldn't have the faintest idea where to start.
