The Apollo 15 crew visited Hadley Rille, a winding valley that is the ruins of a collapsed lavatubes. Lavatubes offer shelter from the cosmic elements: cosmic rays, solar flares, solar ultraviolet, micrometeorites, and big temperature swings. But where we have just the ruins of a lavatube, we can do a make over that will recover those benefits.
