More than two years ago interested area residents had a vision of re-building the single stop on the north/south railway that made the establishment of Lutz possible in the early 1900s-the Lutz Train Depot. That vision is nearing reality, in the soon-to-be designated historic area of downtown Lutz, near the Lutz Public Library. But, your help and support is needed in order for the Train Depot Re-Building Project Committee to pull this effort off in time for the annual Lutz Fourth of July celebration.
Fundraising efforts such as the Guv'na of Lutz campaigns and Market in the Park have raised approximately half of the money needed for the building fund, which means that the remaining money needs to be raised before April 2000. At that time, it is the Committee's intention to begin construction, targeting the completion of the Lutz Train Depot for July 4, 2000.
You can become a permanent part of this historic project that will serve as a symbol that Lutz is different from surrounding suburban areas and become a community event platform by making a tax-deductible donation.
All donations are welcome, but a donation of $50 entitles the donor to a name-engraved floor plank, which will be laid in the Depot. For $100 a name can be engraved onto a Depot barrel and for $250 a name can be engraved onto a Depot bench. Larger donations will be recognized appropriately on a permanently mounted plaque to be hung in the Depot.
With birthdays and Valentine's Day to be celebrated, such donations could serve two purposes-a worthwhile cause and a long-lasting, memorable gift.
Checks for donations can be made payable to the LCA Train Depot Fund and mailed to P.O. Box 1, Lutz, FL 33548. Please be sure to provide the necessary engraving information, where appropriate, with your donation. For more information contact Ron Stoy, Committee Chairman, at 949-3851 or carsnharps@aol.com
