McKinley East Sacramento Neighborhood Association (MENA)

Neighborhood Response Team puts all needed resources in one room

Feb 10, 2006

MENA is actively involved with Sacramento?’s Neighborhood Response Team. The NRT meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Hart Senior Center. The NRT is designed to bring volunteer neighborhood "team captains" together with representatives from various city departments' to quickly resolve ongoing problems. The primary city departments involved are the police department, code enforcement, neighborhood services, and dangerous buildings.
Problems within East Sacramento being addressed by the NRT range from traffic issues, dangerous buildings and suspected drug houses.

These NRT meetings are an effective way to solve problems within our neighborhood and offer an effective way to cut through the "red tape" normally associated with dealing with government bureaucracy. Additionally, NRT meetings offer a built-in accountability that does not exist if a citizen simply makes a complaint with a city department on their own. The meetings hold the departments assigned to the problem accountable for solving the problem in a timely manner. They also allow local neighborhood organizations, such as MENA, to be updated on the progress of an issue.
If you are aware of an ongoing problem that you would like to have addressed at an upcoming NRT meeting please contact MENA at MENA@eastsac.org.
