McKinley East Sacramento Neighborhood Association (MENA)

MENA members: What is on your neighbors’ minds?

May 31, 2006

MENA membership renewal forms left space for your comments and we want to thank those of you who responded and share those thoughts with all members. Not surprisingly, there are a variety of opinions on most issues facing our neighborhood.
Below is a representative sample of some of the major topics.

The ?“Village?” housing proposal at the old Centrage site:
- Please oppose this traffic generator
- I support the Village project 100%
- They should make this area a wildlife refuge
- Housing is a good use of the Centrage property

Mercy Hospital?’s Proposed Heart Center Expansion:
- My children and grandchildren all attended Sacred Heart School. I cannot see any problem with building this life saving center.
- Thank you for not supporting the Mercy Hospital expansion.

- I am glad I live close by to Mercy Hospital and don?’t have to struggle on the freeway to get to the hospital
- Stop Mercy expansion!

Other issues identified by members include:
Noisy motorcycles speeding on McKinley Blvd; need for safe, plentiful activities for young children; traffic on 56th St and Folsom Blvd; taxes; combined sewers and storm drains; maintenance of homes and yards; and crime.

Even our recent name change ?– from the McKinley Elvas Neighborhood Alliance to McKinley East Sac Neighborhood Association had mixed opinions:
- Thank you for changing your name ?– we finally feel welcome to join.
- I love the name McKinley Elvas Neighborhood Alliance!

We lost one long-time member who did not agree with the board?’s policy on Mercy?’s proposed expansion. One member suggested we raise our dues and 28 members sent in a donation with their dues.
