MENA reviews numerous big changes in East Sac

McKinley Place ?– 324 Alhambra Blvd.

An application has been filed to construct 187 condominiums and a single retail space. Project proponents will be making a presentation to the MENA board at the next board meeting on May 3 at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center.
The two-story site is currently home to a vacant commercial bakery (Maryanne?’s Bakery), office space, and four bungalow, single-family homes. Recently the main building fell victim to vandals. The flag store on this block is proposed to remain at the site after construction is completed.

We are currently reviewing the draft Environmental Impact Report and comments are due May 17. As you may know, MENA recommended full transit subsides for all building tenants, parking charges equal to or exceeding the cost of using transit and that the building is compatible with surrounding uses within the community.

The Village ?– A New Housing Development (Vacant land between the freeway and the railroad tracks near the Cannery Business Park)
Cambridge Homes proposes a project consisting of 300 to 400 homes, a park, light retail and possibly a church. There is a possibility of single-family homes, town homes and some live/work units. A new freeway interchange is required or proposed. The concerns are the connectors to this project as there is no current access to this site. Discussions with the development team included breaking through the levee to provide access, which brings up flood control issues; and bringing traffic through from Lanatt and A Streets off 28th Street is a major concern.
