Violent crime

Madison Park has had its share of petty crime -- theft, breaking & entering, etc. -- but very little violent crime. However, in the past couple of months, there have been at least two episodes of violent crime to residents of Murrayhill. First was an armed robbery of a homeowner in the 5000-block. Last night was a home invasion three doors down from me in the 4800-block. I hope that these two incidents were completely random blips and are not signs of future criminal activity. I sincerely hope that adding street lights will go a long way toward keeping these two incidents as just blips and not omens.

Murrayhill has a handful of street lights. White Oak has none. I request your support on a series of petitions that will be necessary to have Duke Power and the city augment the number of lights along the entire 1.5-mile length of Murrayhill and the entire length of White Oak.

Expense of Street light plans

The City of Charlotte does not pay for the street light lighting plans. Duke absorbs the cost of the plans. The city only pays a monthly lighting bill at a flat governmental rate to cover the installation and lights.

Also the reason for the 25% initial petition is to ensure the lead petition will do the work to collect the signatures once the plan is developed. It also show there is some interest in the lights. Before this requirment some petitioners requested lights, but never did the petition work after the plans were developed.

By Info from CDOT
Lighting Plan Ordered

CDOT ordered the lighting plan for Murrayhill and White Oak. Once the plan is created residents will be notified. The plans will be brought around for residents to sign off on. In order to get the lights 60% of the property owners must sign off on the final plan.
