Have you ever been annoyed at the inability to enjoy a beautiful evening outside because of a
glaring light from a neighboring property? Lighting is regulated by the City code. It
clearly states that lighting may not encroach upon neighbors?’ properties. If it is a
problem for you, a suggestion would be to, first, give the neighbor the opportunity to fix the problem by asking them to adjust the lighting.
If that won?’t work, explain about code. And finally, dial 311. It is the number to contact code compliance.
The problem with citing a lighting infraction is that abatement officers have to make the observation after hours and this process can be rather lengthy and frustrating.
