Yesterday afternoon on my way back from work I saw a dead white rabbit in the middle of R.C. Peoples Blvd. that was hit by a car. There were smears of blood on the street and some of its organs were strewn out in the street. The speed limit is 25 mph in that area. I did not see the dead rabbit in the morning when I left for work (approx. 8 am) What I am saying is that it looks like this domesticated rabbit which was bright white and easily stood out against the black background of the asphalt, which probably escaped from someone's backyard, was hit in a 25 mph zone, on a really wide and easily navigable road in broad daylight!
What the hell is going on with people in the neighborhood?!
I know it is just a stupid rabbit, but I get so sick of seeing animals hit on the road around here, especially with all of the relatively low speed limits.
How hard is it to SLOW DOWN and/or swerve around an object in the road?
This callousness towards animals is sad and easily avoidable. In a few more weeks the turtles will start moving around looking for mates and I'm sure we'll all see our fair share of needless slaughter.
Please, please, please slow down and get off your smartphone while driving your car!
Instagram, Twitter, and whatever other stupid apps people have to compulsively check will still be there when you get home! You aren't missing anything important --focus on driving!
Has anyone else in the neighborhood noticed this/think anything about this?
1. You can't always assume that people who speed and/or hit things in the road are on their phone.
2 .Also, depending on the animal, it is still possible to hit or run over one while you're driving, no matter how much you try to avoid it. If it's a fast animal I think they get confused, go into a panic, and don't know which way to run. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to avoid one and cringed as I expected to hear or feel a thump, but didn't.
3. As for the speeding, people often complain, but I think most everybody speeds down that road at some time or another, perhaps even those who complain, many probably forgetting they are speeding; I'm sure some of them are cops, too, and not even in a hurry to get to a crime situation.
I think what's even more annoying is all the people who ride on your tail while you're driving on Woods Road. You can't even pull over there. And then a good many of them turn and ride on your tail even more all the way to R.C. Peoples Blvd.. If they're not turning onto some street in Caravel Woods, a good many of them keep going and turn right onto Dynasty--and then who knows where. And as frustrating as that is, you can't always assume they are your neighbors; they could be from elsewhere just going to someone's house in here. What would help a good chunk of all this are places to pull over and let them pass, since they're in such a hurry. And if no one ever ran late or had to hurry to get somewhere I'm sure you'd see even less of all this. But who fits that mold?
