Someone below started a question about the tearing up of the roundabout, but then the discussion turned into trees.

 

The now old roundabout still seemed rather new, and then it got all torn up and redone.  What was wrong with the way it was?  And why has grass replaced the concrete top?  Now it is grass that will need to be cut.  I think of it as grass that if it isn't regularly mowed will cause difficulties in seeing oncoming traffic.  Why was it all changed and who was consulted about making the change?  Tearing it all up was was all news to me until I saw it already in progress.

My understanding about the roundabout is that Caravel Woods complained about it to our state representatives office. I think it was Nicole Poore??™s office. Apparently it was not built to the specifications drawn up by DelDot and given to their sub-contractor. At one of the Mansion Farm community meetings last year Ms. Poore said that after the appeal from Caravel Woods, they had intended to have a community meeting to discuss everything related to the fate of the roundabout but she did not have a definite date for that meeting. The MF board asked to be notified when a final meeting date was set. No one on the board was notified and so we had no board representation at that meeting where Caravel Woods made the recommendation of putting just grass into the center of the roundabout. I think they said that they would maintain the grass and keep it mowed. That is my best recollection of what happened. And you are right that the first roundabout was pretty new and although it was an ugly large and unwanted structure, it was DelDots determination (I believe) that the roundabout go in at the entrance to the two developments, but it was Caravel Woods request (not the board of MF) that it be remade - and this time with a grass filled center.
