Speed Hump Needed on Emerson

Posted in: Marlborough Mesa
We live on Emerson Street just south of Guadalupe. We have only lived here since last summer, but we feel that the speeding situation is really getting out of hand. People buzz by at speeds well in excess of the 25 mph speed limit. In fact, I see cars going as fast as 50 mph at times. And this goes on all day, every day.

It goes without saying that, in a residential neighborhood in which children regularly play near the street, this situation presents a very serious danger. I would like it stopped.

I understand that some of the speed humps in our neighborhood were only recently installed. How do we ask the city to install the speed humps? Who do we contact?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Contacts:

Aaron and Jessica,
The speed humps in question are on Pecos and the people most responsible for having them placed there are Louis Arravalo and Mark and Angela Ensley.

They had to get the signatures of everyone on their street saying that they indeed would like to have them installed.

You can find Mark's email in the discussion area under "CABLE OPTIONS". I am sure they KNOW well who is best to contact at the city.

You also might try the City of Mesa Traffic Engineering at 480-644-2160.

There is also a COMPLETE list of all city numbers on our website under Community Hotlinks at the very bottom right hand side on the Homepage.

There is someone else in your area on the corner of Osage and Emerson that are equally concerned about the speedsters. They just finished relandscaping their front and putting a split rail fence up. Their names are Bob and Marguerite Gundacker. She is a stay-at-home mom and odly enough they just moved in last spring!

Since you have just moved into the neighborhood only last summer, I will let you know that I have "Welcome Packets" which, among many other things, includes a booklet from Mesa with ALL City numbers as well plus a map of all of our Marlborough Homes, etc. I would be most happy to bring you one OR you can stop by my home and pick one up. They are free for the asking to anyone in Marlborough. Either way, let me know.

So, now that I have your email address, do you want me to put you on the GROUP email list of Marlborough? You would receive updates on the "goings on" in other areas of our 469 home area.

If there is a crime committed and I KNOW about it -- YOU will know about it. I do contact the city police every month to find out any criminal activities in and around us. When I last spoke with Officer Gastelum, his caution to everyone was: "Tell everyone to please NOT leave their garage doors open UNLESS they are outside, as that is where the most crimes have been committed in the Dobson District since the beginning of the year. It has been the highest ever this year."

No one else will have your email or any information unless you so choose. If so, just email me w/name, address, etc. OR better still go the Association Info on the Homepage and "Become a Member". We are NOT and never will be an Association, but that is just how neighborhoodlink sets up the homepage for all over the country.

Keep Kids Alive-Drive 25

One thing you also might just "take a peek" at is on the homepage as well. That is Keep Kids Alive-Drive 25.

It is a program/drive that is sweeping the country.

RADAR GUN

There was a great TV newscast article about the use of Radar Guns in neighborhoods on Channel 12 February 16, 2000.

Since we have such a problem in our entire area, this might be a viable solution for those interested. You may remain anonymous.

If you would like to read the entire story w/pictures, log onto:

Then go the the news story:
Kent Dana tracks speeders with radar gun

This took place in part right across Alma School on Summit, where 2 schools are located.
