Speed Bumps

UPDATE - SPEED HUMPS

With Alma's help, I was able to obtain the policy from Mesa on speed humps. The city informed her that there was a woman at the end of Peralta who had collected signatures a while back. Alma and I went to visit her on Saturday, but she has apparently moved away sometime ago. So, a petition will be circulated again in the coming weeks to residents on Peralta. We need to have a 70% approval from neighbors on Peralta, so your signature is vital. We also need to know if any one on Peralta has an issue with having a speed hump within 500 ft of your house. If you do, that could mess up placement and delay outr efforts. Thanks! Kevin

Complicated Speed Hump Process

I read your message concerning gathering signatures in order get speed humps on your street. My understanding is that the process is much more complcated than that. I know this because I tried to get them placed on Emerson.

First, the Fire Department has to approve the placement of the humps. As it turned out, Emerson is not eligible because the street is a designated route for fire vehicles. Second, a speed study has to be conducted. A certain number of cars traveling at x number of mph over the speed limit must be observed before your street can become speed hump eligible. Finally, the residents must approve of the humps.

Contact Mike King at the City's Traffic Engineering Department for more details. I hope you have better luck than we did on Emerson.
