MINUTES
The monthly meeting of the Marsh Oaks Neighborhood Association (MONA) was
held on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1PM in Oceanside Christian Church, 130 Main St.,
Atlantic Beach.
ROSE PARK
Members briefly discussed the children's playground for Rose Park, which was
funded by the AB city government in January. Recreation Director Timmy
Johnson estimates that the park will be up and running by April. There will
be a groundbreaking or grand opening for the park, and all interested
residents of Marsh Oaks are encouraged to attend -- and bring their neighbors
-- to show their support for the project.
CODE ENFORCEMENT and ZONING
Three items were discussed in regards to code enforcement and zoning: trash
on West Second St., the crematory to be built on the north side of Levy.Rd.,
and the zoning controversy regarding boats, trailers and vehicles.
Members visited the site of a large trash heap on the south side of West 2nd
St. (near Main St.), a site that has existed for some time and appears to be
growing larger.
The crematorium proposed for the west side of Atlantic Beach was discussed,
and Michael Hoffmann agreed to discuss this with the city.
Mike Patterson, who lives in Marsh Oaks, spoke for a group of AB residents
who are opposed to the efforts of the city to proactively enforce existing
zoning regulations regarding where boats, trailers and vehicles can be
parked. Members of MONA present at the meeting favored the rights of boaters
and others to park beyond the front line of their residences (but not on the
right of way) provided that the boats and vehicles are properly registered as
required by law.
CULTURAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Members discussed the $17,000 program funded by the city for cultural
enrichment. MONA has requested that one of the four jazz concerts be
performed at Dutton Park, and that the city recreation department make every
effort to include children from Marsh Oaks in the summer arts program.
