MARSH OAKS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Minutes for Nov. 3, 2001 meeting
The Marsh Oaks Neighborhood Association (MONA) met for its monthly meeting on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 in the Oceanside Christian Church. The next monthly meeting will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 PM in the Oceanside Christian Church, 130 Main St., Atlantic Beach.
I ROSE PARK
MONA submitted a letter to the mayor and city commission requesting the city to ban dogs from the interior of Rose Park. The text of that letter will be available at the December meeting, and on the MONA website.
II MAYPORT RD. AND ATLANTIC BLVD. INTERSECTION
MONA submitted a letter to the JTA regarding safety concerns expressed by MONA members and their suggestions for improving safety at the intersection of Mayport Rd. and Atlantic Blvd., focussing on the northeastern corner of the intersection. The text of that letter will be available at the December meeting, and on the MONA website.
III SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
School bus safety was discussed, particularly the ongoing problems observed by MONA members at the bus stop located at Levy Rd. and Main St. Members have suggested either a school-crossing guard be posted at this bus stop, or that the bus stop be relocated one block south of its present location.
CORRECTION: The minutes for the Oct. meeting incorrectly stated that elementary school children were spotted walking in a cluster in the middle of Main St. The children in question were of high school age, according to Maureen Shaughnessy.
IV FLYOVER RECLAMATION PROJECT
The December and January meetings will be used to finalize MONA's objectives for reclaiming the neighborhood after the completion of the Mayport Flyover Project -- the latest estimate for the completion of construction is April, 2002. Members decided to postpone meeting with City Manager Hanson until the February meeting in order to complete our discussion of the Reclamation Project.
V AGENDA FOR DECEMBER
The two major items on the December agenda are the Flyover Reclamation Project and the developments on and around Plaza Rd., including the new green space, streetlighting and sidewalks, the intersections and safety issues, and the commercial development on the corner of Mayport Rd.
