District 2 Neighborhood Watch Meeting

Apr 28, 2006

On this past Wednesday night all of the Neighborhood Watch Members were given the opportunity to meet the command staff of District 2 Police Department.
Commander Sophia Teague, Capt. Tom Wolff and CCP Lisa Timmer were our principal speakers. We were expecting coffee and doughnuts (policeman food) however we received wonderfully good finger food, sandwiches and soda. We joked with Commander Teague about the food saying that we were expecting something completely different and we thanked her as we were getting our food. Commander Teague shot back with, "Everything comes with a price." For me, after listening to her proposal, it's not a very big price at all.

Commander Teague eluded to the fact that number one we all need to be a more vigilant and two she is proposing a the emergency system whereby if an incident happens in your community Neighborhood Watch Captains are immediately informed. All the details have not been established yet. I will tell you that when the hunter looking for the wild boars incident happened in Jan. (shots were fired) we in Mayfair would have welcomed e-mail or phone call to let us know what was happening.

Capt. Wolff talked about being vigilant with your own property. He gave us incidents that just floored me. People leaving expensive items in their car! In one incident a man in New Tampa left a Rolex watch in plain view in a parking lot. Also, in Lowe?’s parking lot a handgun was reported on the dash of a car. People in New Tampa are not taking precautions with keeping their property safe. And for whatever reason people are not notifying the police when incidents happen. It is vital that you report anything large or small to Police Department. It may prevent it from happening to someone else.

Lisa Timmer was given a huge round of applause for the excellent job she does of keeping Neighborhood Watch Captains informed!! We are also fortunate to have Lisa as our police liaison.

One other thing I would like to say is that Mayfair had the only Neighborhood Watch person in attendance in all of New Tampa. What everything that's been going on in Tampa Palms you would have thought other subdivisions would have been there.

If you have any thoughts or comments on this article please post it the ?‘Talk about It?’ section on the Mayfair Website.
