Tampa, FL June 28, 2007 -
All District II specialty squads conducted phase two of Operation Blue Heat. This operation is designed to attack both "Quality of Life" issues and serious crimes that effect the residents of District II during the summer months. The QUAD Squads conducted a buy bust operation, the SAC Squads conducted a prostitution "sting" operation in the morning and a "reverse" operation in the afternoon. DLIS Detectives conducted warrant checks and Crime Prevention officers went door to door handing out nearly 500 crime prevention pamphlets. Today's Blue Heat Operation was highly productive resulting in the following accomplishments: 17 Felony arrests (several suspects had multiple felony charges far exceeding this number), 10 Misdemeanor Arrests (of which 5 arrests were of "Johns" for soliciting U/C Officers, and 4 were for Prostitutes who solicited U/C officers). There were two "In Progress" arrests made (one for an Auto Burglary and the other for a Strong Arm Robbery). 5 vehicles were impounded. In addition, the following narcotics were seized; 1.6 grams rock cocaine, 47.0 grams of marijuana and 1.2 grams schedule III controlled substance (Phernergan Pills). CPP Timmer also facilitated a Neighborhood Watch Meeting at the Oaks of Riverview. Operation Blue Heat will continue throughout the summer months with each new phase aimed at utilizing a myriad of tactics to target the various crimes that occur in District II.
