I personally know the woman who sent this and her boyfriend Jason. She and Jason are both attorneys and would not scam me on this. Please, please be careful
Susan

Hello all,

I am writing to warn you all about a terrible scam that actually happened to me, my boyfriend and his family. If you have any question as to whether this is real, e-mail me or call me (if you have my number) and I can tell you all about it. Please warn your loved ones, especially your parents!

Yesterday my boyfriend's mother, who lives in Stuart, Fl., was called at work. She was told her son, my boyfriend (Jason), was in an accident with a semi-truck and that he was bleeding from the brain. They told her he was being airlifted to the hospital but his insurance was not being accepted. They managed to get her to give them her credit information and Jason's phone number and address. They also told her to wire $1000 to the airlift company. If people were telling you your child is dying and they need information to help him, you would probably tell them everything they want to know.

This, of course, caused her great pain and she called his sister who then called me. Everyone was hysterical and making plans to come to the hospital here in Tampa. I personally felt sick, helpless, and distraught.

Meanwhile, the scam artist called Jason here in Tampa and said they were Verizon. They said there was a problem with his account and told him not to answer his phone for 30 minutes. He did not believe them and questioned them. They were angry he was questioning them and called him a bastard and said, "We are going to f*ck with you all day." He is an attorney and they found this out. They then began calling him repeatedly and telling him to "Drop the case or else." He asked, "What case?" and they of course had no idea what to say. He became fearful for his own safety. He had no idea what they had already told his mother.

Everything became clear after his mom called his boss to find out where he was driving when the accident occurred. His boss began telling people he was in an accident and one of his co-workers went to his office and found him sitting there. At this point, my boyfriend thought the scam artists had called his work to mess with him. He then found out from an assistant that his mom also belived he was dying. That is when he figured out it was a scam to get money.

I know this sounds crazy, even the police had a hard time believing it at first. I am just trying to warn people of this horrible scam. It's bad enough having your money stolen, but believing someone you love is dying is far worse. The police probably won't find these people. (They were able to find that the scam artists wanted the money wired to Detroit, but that's about it.) So the only defense is to warn people to be skeptical, even when they are being told someone they love is dying.

Be Well,
Carolyne
